As circunstâncias que permeiam as relações sociedade-natureza e os problemas ambientais decorrentes do crescimento populacional e econômico podem ser interpretadas por diversas abordagens. Este artigo objetiva discutir três perspectivas críticas sobre o processo de dominação e exploração da natureza: Antropoceno, Capitaloceno e Lixoceno. Para tanto, a metodologia se baseou em pesquisa bibliográfica, de modo que foram realizadas análises de artigos científicos publicados sobre o panorama estudado. Conclui-se que a noção de Antropoceno dá ênfase ao papel do ser humano na transformação da Terra, de modo que este processo afetaria irreversivelmente as condições geoecológicas e ecossistêmicas de toda biosfera. Já o Capitaloceno considera que a ação humana é perpassada pelas relações políticas e econômicas de poder e desigualdades no contexto do capitalismo global. O enfoque do Lixoceno tem sido empregado para ressaltar a natureza contaminadora causada pelo sistema capitalista, desde a resistência e acúmulo de externalidades no corpo humano até na Terra.
