El trastorno dismórfico corporal se caracteriza por la preocupación persistente de un defecto imaginario del aspecto físico que causa un sufrimiento clínicamente significativo o interfiere en áreas importantes de la actividad diaria. Se desconoce la causa exacta de esta enfermedad, sin embargo, se cree que esta patología surge de la interacción de factores psicológicos, biológicos, sociales y culturales que impactan en el comportamiento del individuo. Según el Manual Diagnóstico y Estadístico de los Trastornos Mentales en su quinta edición, el diagnóstico es clínico y debe ser temprano para tener un pronóstico más favorable. El manejo inicial se basa en la psicoterapia, siendo de primera elección la terapia cognitivo conductual. El tratamiento farmacológico incluye principalmente los inhibidores de recaptura de serotonina. Aproximadamente, la mitad de los pacientes que padecen esta enfermedad tienen intervenciones médicas innecesarias que no logran solucionar su preocupación, llegando a provocar problemas médico-legales a los médicos tratantes.
Los trastornos de la conducta alimentaria son trastornos de la salud mental caracterizados por un comportamiento patológico frente a la ingesta alimentaria y una obsesión por el control de peso, acompañado de distorsión de la percepción de la imagen corporal. Las dos variantes más conocidas son la anorexia y la bulimia nerviosas. Presentan una etiología multifactorial, con una combinación de predisposición genética, influencias ambientales y rasgos psicológicos. El manejo inicial se basa en la psicoterapia, ya sea en la terapia cognitivo conductual o la aplicación de técnicas más recientes como la desensibilización y reprocesamiento de movimientos oculares. El tratamiento farmacológico incluye los inhibidores de recaptura de serotonina como primera elección.

El Clostridium difficile es una bacteria anaeróbica, gram positiva capaz de colonizar el colon y producir diarrea aguda. Es una de las infecciones nosocomiales más importantes causante de una alta morbilidad a nivel hospitalario. La clínica de la infección es amplia variando desde portadores asintomáticos hasta colitis fulminante, siendo la diarrea aguda la principal manifestación. El diagnóstico siempre se sospecha en cualquier paciente con diarrea aguda y factores de riesgo; y se confirma con una prueba en heces capaz de detectar las toxinas o el gen del Clostridium difficile. El tratamiento dependerá de la severidad de la infección, por lo general utilizando antibióticos de amplio espectro con sensibilidad por la bacteria como metronidazol, vancomicina o fidaxomicina. En algunas ocasiones la cirugía está indicada aunque no es lo más común. En el caso de aquellos pacientes con múltiples recurrencias el tratamiento con mayor evidencia de tasa de curación es el trasplante de microbiota fecal. La prevención con medidas de aislamiento y lavado de manos es de suma importancia para prevenir la transmisión entre pacientes a nivel hospitalario.
