Objective: to report students' experience of the first period of Nursing course from Universidade Federal de Uberlândia, in an extension Project: Grupo de Estudos Transdisciplinar de Atenção Reprodutiva (GESTAR). Methods: it is a report of experience of students who started an extension group focused on women's health, discussing about studied modules and methodology use. Results: The participation of entering students in GESTAR was an important opportunity of contact with the population, in addition, it is a tool for stimulating pedagogical autonomy, teamwork, and finally strengthening the link with the University. Conclusion: The performance in the Project is characterized as a unique experience for students, which integrate the theory and the practice about the pregnancy and puerperal period, which is an important strategy in reducing high rates of cesarean sections in Brazil, as well as in the development of women in the preparation for motherhood.
