Hermeneutics method was introduced by modern Islamic thinkers where they see the need to apply the methods of hermeneutics in the interpretation of the Quran. Among of the thinkers are Fazlur Rahman, Nasr Hamid Abu Zayd and Arkoun who applying hermeneutics. Thus it occur a debate among Muslim scholars. Hence, this study aims to analyse the methods introduced by these scholars which were emphasizing in hermeneutics aspects.In this paper, the method of content analysis conducted can gatherrelevant facts on hermeneutics methods that have been applied against the Quran by modern thinkers as well as collecting information in other forms of interpretation that have been conducted by these modern thinkers. The views of contemporary scholars onthe true interpretation of Quran was also identified to argue the opinions of the modern thinkers who justify the hermeneutics methods.this study shows those modern thinkers have used the theories of hermeneutics as literary criticism, history and semiotic study of the Quran. The use of the method has downgraded the Quran by equating the Quran as literary works. Reinterpretationof the verses of the Quran based on the current context has made the issue of fiqh change and become controversial and this is against the opinion of the majority of scholars.
<p>The stereotype of Islam as an extremist religion is often associated with adherence in a good-looking character to the practices of ritual piety. This study aims to discuss the Hadith that allegedly refers to the presence of good-looking phenomenon from the prophetic period. The study uses a descriptive qualitative research design which relates to the basis of critical analysis through an interdisciplinary approach combining isnād-cum-matn and socio-religious phenomenology. The results indicate that the Hadith good-looking is ṣaḥīḥ (authentic) based on the review of its sanad transmission and examination on its matn. The good-looking trait is attributable to the emptiness of morality in the practice of Islamic spirituality. This vacuity is induced by religious insights focused solely on theological and normative viewpoints. The solution is to spread moral teaching and moderate religious values proactively through different methods and techniques, such as virtual proselytizing in social media.</p>
Background The practice of wet nursing or breastfeeding another woman’s child in Malaysia, especially among Muslim mothers, is on the rise. This is due to the emergence of public awareness of the benefits of breast milk to children. However, it is claimed that some mothers do not have a clear understanding of the Islamic rulings concerning wet nursing, especially those related to mahram (prohibition to marry), nasab (lineage) and inheritance. Hence, the purpose of this study is to examine the level of understanding of the legal implications of wet nursing and the factors influencing the practice among Muslim mothers who have practiced breastfeeding. Methods This was a cross-sectional descriptive study that was conducted between January and July 2019. This study was conducted with 100 Muslim mothers who had breastfed others’ child(ren) in Selangor. Data were obtained using a validated questionnaire (Cronbach’s alpha = 0.8) and processed using the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) software. Results The results show that the majority of the respondents understand the basic Islamic rulings on wet nursing, especially on the persons prohibited to marry, conditions and feeding method. However, the respondents need to further understand the rulings related to nasab (lineage), guardianship and inheritance involving the milk child. Various factors that have influenced wet nursing in society were also found. Conclusions This study has significant implications for the need to have more activities to create awareness and enhance the understanding related to wet nursing among Muslim women in society. Therefore, more research studies related to wet nursing and the impact of the practice should be conducted to offer better solutions to society.
Islam has prepared and outlined clear rules and regulations regarding all types of food, including food from haram sources (forbidden based on the Islamic religion) derived from animals and other bases. This article critically reflects on general Fiqh principles that have been debated by Islamic clerics and renowned experts on Islamic Fiqh regarding this thorny issue. Fiqh scholars, for instance, argue that the halal status of each and every food product could easily be determined by examining how that product was processed from the very beginning. In this sense, if the original source of the product is halal then the final processed product is also deemed halal. Contrarily, if the original source of the product is haram then the final processed product will be considered haram, if the source is dirty, illicit and/or unclean in the eyes of Islam. Even though the final processed product has changed so much in its basic constituents, this product will still be considered haram. Jurists from the Maliki and Hanafi, on the other hand, every item that is considered haram and unclean can be considered halal and fit for consumption or use in the eyes of Islam provided the original item has changed so much from its original make up. That said, jurists from all four sects seem to agree that any new products that can cause detriment and harm to human beings, either directly or otherwise, should be considered impure and haram for consumption and other indirect uses.
