RESUMOSabe-se que a infecção causada pelo SARS-CoV-2 pode causar alterações hematológicas, o que culmina em eventos tromboembólicos e aumento da morbimortalidade. Como consequência desses eventos, tem-se o tromboembolismo pulmonar (TEP), em que ocorre a obstrução de artérias pulmonares por um ou mais coágulos, cujo desfecho costuma ser desfavorável. Nesse sentido, o presente estudo tem por objetivo reunir informações sobre os aspectos patogênicos de TEP em pacientes com Covid-19, bem como sua incidência nesses casos. Elaborou-se uma revisão de literatura integrativa por meio da estratégia PICO, em que realizou-se uma busca avançada nas bases de dados SciELO, PubMED/MEDLINE e BVS, utilizando-se os descritores DeCS/MeSH "Pulmonary Embolism", "Covid-19" e "Incidence" e o operador booleano restritivo "AND". Foram encontrados um total de 117 artigos e, após a leitura rigorosa dos títulos e dos resumos, 30 foram escolhidos para a leitura na íntegra e, desses, 20 foram selecionados para compor o estudo. Em pacientes com a Covid-19, as alterações na coagulação decorrem, dentre outras causas, de lesões endoteliais causadas pelo vírus. Esse processo desencadeia a liberação de citocinas pró-inflamatórias que ativam mecanismos trombóticosum dos principais achados das pesquisas. Diversos estudos evidenciaram, ainda, que valores elevados de D-dímero estão relacionados a maiores complicações cardiovasculares. Concomitante a isso, os pacientes com Covid-19, ao serem submetidos a exames de imagem, evidenciaram a presença de trombos na circulação pulmonar, constatando uma alta incidência de TEP, sobretudo em pessoas internadas em estado grave. Em decorrência do TEP, complicações cardiovasculares sérias podem surgir, como o aumento das câmaras cardíacas direitas, devido à presença de excessiva resistência vascular pulmonar, culminando em piora dos índices de morte. Dessa forma, constatou-se que há incidência elevada de eventos tromboembólicos em paciente com a Covid-19, cuja investigação diagnóstica e tratamento precisam ser feitos de maneira cautelosa devido à alta morbimortalidade.
