O objetivo foi descrever a percepção de enfermeiros obstetras quanto às potencialidades do cuidado, dificuldades e estratégias de inserção no cenário da assistência ao parto e nascimento. Pesquisa qualitativa, realizada com enfermeiros egressos e estudantes dos cursos de residência e pós-graduação da Universidade Federal do Amazonas, assim como os preceptores dos cursos, por meio de entrevista semiestruturada. Para análise, utilizou-se a análise de conteúdo temática. A partir dos relatos, surgiram os seguintes núcleos temáticos: O ser Enfermeiro obstetra, e Dificuldades encontradas e estratégias de inserção na cena do parto e nascimento. Os enfermeiros obstetras são conscientes de suas atribuições e potencialidades da sua inserção, estão respondendo positivamente aos investimentos à sua atuação. Apesar das barreiras vivenciadas, como conflito com classe médica e enfermeiros obstetras pouco capacitados atuantes, as estratégias de enfrentamento empregadas, como especializações, produção científica e vínculo com a parturiente e outros profissionais, têm conseguido derrubá-las. Insertion of the obstetric nurse in the context of labor and birth Abstract: The aim was to describe the perception of obstetric nurses regarding the potentialities of care, difficulties and strategies for insertion in the scenario of labor and birth assistance. Qualitative research, conducted with former nurses and students from residency and postgraduate courses at the Federal University of Amazonas, as well as the preceptors of the courses, through semi-structured interviews. Thematic content analysis was used for the analysis. From the reports, the following thematic nuclei emerged: Being an Obstetric Nurse, and Difficulties encountered and strategies for insertion in the scene of labor and birth. Obstetric nurses are aware of their attributions and potentialities of their insertion, and are responding positively to investments in their work. Despite the barriers experienced, such as conflict with the medical profession and poorly trained obstetric nurses, the coping strategies employed, such as specializations, scientific production, and links with the parturient woman and other professionals, have managed to overcome them. Inserción de la enfermera obstétrica en el contexto del trabajo de parto y nacimiento Resumen: El objetivo es describir la percepción de los enfermeros obstetras respecto a las potencialidades del cuidado, las dificultades y las estrategias de inserción en el ámbito de la asistencia al parto y al nacimiento. Investigación cualitativa, realizada con enfermeros egresados y estudiantes de los cursos de residencia y posgrado de la Universidad Federal del Amazonas, así como con los preceptores de los cursos, mediante entrevista semiestructurada. Para el análisis se utilizó el análisis de contenido temático. De los informes surgieron los siguientes núcleos temáticos: El ser enfermera obstétrica, y Dificultades encontradas y estrategias de inserción en la escena del parto. A pesar de las barreras vividas, como el conflicto con la clase médica y los enfermeros obstetras poco capacitados, las estrategias de enfrentamiento empleadas, como la especialización, la producción científica y la vinculación con la parturienta y otros profesionales, han conseguido derribarlas. Teve por objetivo avaliar se a assistência ao trabalho de parto e parto assistidos por residentes de enfermagem obstétrica estão condizentes com as recomendações científicas vigentes. Estudo descritivo, exploratório, documental com abordagem quantitativa, realizado com fichas de acompanhamento de parto assistidos por residentes de enfermagem obstétrica. Os resultados mostraram que 100% das parturientes assistidas utilizaram métodos não farmacológicos para alívio da dor. Os mais utilizados foram deambulação (77%), penumbra (65,5%), técnicas de respiração (64,5%), massagens e banho morno (58,5%) e ingestão hídrica (55%); 54% tiveram seus partos na posição semi-vertical, 98% tiveram acompanhante no trabalho de parto e parto e 4,47% foram submetidas episiotomia no parto. As práticas recomendadas estão sendo realizadas pelas residentes de enfermagem obstétrica. É perceptível a inserção dos residentes no serviço tem sido uma grande aliada na humanização do parto, porém fazem-se necessários novos estudos para um olhar mais profundo desta atuação. Evaluation of the assistance of residents in obstetric nursing to the parturient Abstract: The aim of this study was to evaluate whether the labor and delivery assistance provided by obstetric nursing residents is consistent with current scientific recommendations. This was a descriptive, exploratory, documentary study with a quantitative approach, carried out with monitoring records of labor assisted by obstetric nursing residents. The results showed that 100% of assisted parturients used non-pharmacological methods for pain relief. The most used were walking (77%), penumbra (65.5%), breathing techniques (64.5%), massage and warm bath (58.5%) and water intake (55%); 54% were delivered in the semi-vertical position, 98% had a companion during labor and delivery, and 4.47% underwent episiotomy at delivery. The recommended practices are being performed by the obstetric nursing residents. It is perceptible that the insertion of residents in the service has been a great ally in humanizing childbirth; however, new studies are necessary for a deeper look at this activity. Evaluación de la asistencia de residentes de enfermería obstétrica a la parturienta Resumen: El objetivo fue evaluar si la asistencia al parto asistido por residentes de enfermería obstétrica es consistente con las recomendaciones científicas actuales. Estudio descriptivo, exploratorio, documental, con abordaje cuantitativo, realizado con registros de seguimiento del parto asistidos por residentes de enfermería obstétrica. Los resultados mostraron que el 100% de las parturientas asistidas utilizaron métodos no farmacológicos para el alivio del dolor. Las más utilizadas fueron la deambulación (77%), la penumbra (65,5%), las técnicas respiratorias (64,5%), el masaje y el baño caliente (58,5%) y la ingesta de agua (55%); el 54% tuvo el parto en posición semivertical, el 98% tuvo acompañante en el parto y el 4,47% se sometió a episiotomía en el parto. Las prácticas recomendadas están siendo realizadas por residentes de enfermería obstétrica. Es perceptible que la inserción de residentes en el servicio ha sido un gran aliado en la humanización del parto; sin embargo, son necesarios nuevos estudios para profundizar en esta actuación.
