Objetivo: Verificar os principais benefícios, indicações e efeitos fisiológicos do exercício resistido como ferramenta não farmacológica na prevenção e ou tratamento de mulheres na pós-menopausa com síndrome metabólica. Métodos: Trata-se de um estudo de revisão de literatura, no qual foram utilizados artigos em português e inglês de revistas indexadas nos bancos de dados Bireme e Pubmed, nas bases de dados Medline, Scielo, Lilacs e Pedro, publicados entre os anos de 2002 e 2017. A busca pelos artigos utilizados no respectivo estudo ocorreu no período de agosto de 2016 a julho de 2017. Resultados: O exercício resistido melhora o condicionamento físico, mantém a massa magra, aumenta a força e a taxa metabólica em repouso além favorecer a demanda de energia e promover a melhora na densidade mineral óssea; por isso tem sido destacado como o responsável na qualidade de vida em mulheres na pós-menopausa. Conclusão: O exercício resistido apresentou resultados mensuráveis e comprovados em todas as condicionantes tanto da síndrome metabólica quanto nos efeitos da falência ovariana, devendo, portanto, ser incorporado no contexto geral de tratamento.Palavras-chave: mulheres, menopausa, obesidade, dislipidemias, exercício.
