Palavras-chave: fibra em detergente ácido indigestível, fibra em detergente neutro indigestível, matéria seca indigestível Influence of incubation time and particles size on indigestible compounds contents in cattle feeds and feces obtained by in situ proceduresABSTRACT -The aim of this work was to evaluate the effects of in situ incubation time and particles size on the estimates of indigestible fractions of dry matter (iDM), neutral detergent fiber (iNDF), and acid detergent fiber (iADF) in cattle feeds and feces. Samples of corn grain, wheat bran, corn silage, elephant grass, sugarcane, signal grass hay, corn straw, and feces obtained from cattle fed high and low concentrate diets were used. The samples were ground through 1 mm, 2 mm, and 3 mm screen sieve and put in 4 × 5 cm non-woven textile bags (20 mg DM/cm² of surface). The samples were divided in three groups, being each group incubated in the rumen of a crossbred heifer. The incubation procedure was conducted three times with the change of groups among animals. The following incubation times were used: 0, 12, 24, 48, 72, 96, 1...
Na presença de caseína, a suplementação com amido elevou o tempo de latência discreta para a degradação da FDN.Palavras-chave: capim-braquiária, degradação ruminal, modelos matemáticos, suplementos In vitro degradation of low-quality tropical forage neutral detergent fiber according to protein and (or) carbohydrates supplementationABSTRACT -The effect of the protein and (or) carbohydrates supplementation on the rumen degradation of neutral detergent fiber (NDF) from low quality forage was evaluated. The experiment simulated the supplementation of finishing cattle grazing low quality Brachiaria decumbens pasture during dry season (70:30 forage to concentrate ration, %DM). The concentrate referring to the basal treatment was formulated to contain 30% CP, using starch as the energetic source and casein as the protein source. The treatments were established by omission of protein and (or) carbohydrates sources, associated with substitution of starch by pectin. In that way, six treatments were evaluated: 1. Forage, 2. Forage plus Starch, 3. Forage plus Pectin, 4.Forage plus Casein, 5. Forage plus casein plus starch and 6. Forage plus casein plus pectin. The treatme...
Palavras-chave: capim-elefante, degradação ruminal, modelos matemáticos, suplementos In vitro degradation of neutral detergent fiber from high-quality tropical forage according to supplementation with protein and (or) carbohydratesABSTRACT -The objective was to evaluate the effect of protein and (or) carbohydrate supplementation on the rumen degradation of neutral detergent fiber (NDF) from high-quality tropical forage. RESUMO -Objetivou-se avaliar as estimativas da fração digestível da FDN em bovinos com base na aplicação do conceito Models were compared by using two experiments of each animal category. Both models predicted similar digestible NDF for lactating cows. The mean prediction errors (MPE) were +1.07 and +1.05 percentile points of digestible NDF for WM and CM, respectively. The MPE was lower in CM (+0.42 percentile points) than in WM (-6.64 percentile points) for growing and finishing cattle. The random fluctuation pattern of the prediction errors was the main limitation of the CM, which might be explained by environmental effects on the interaction between carbohydrates and lignin in the plant cell wall. Although the CM resulted in better estimates than the WM, inclusion of biological methods to estimate potentially digestible NDF may improve the prediction accuracy.
