As disfunções Temporomandibulares (DTMs) compreendem uma ampla categoria de desordens que engloba alterações clínicas na musculatura mastigatória. Entretanto, alterações mais globais parecem estar envolvidas na etiologia das DTMs. O objetivo do estudo foi avaliar a força e a atividade eletromiográfica dos músculos respiratórios em pacientes com disfunção temporomandibular e propor um protocolo de treinamento muscular respiratório (TMR) avaliando a sua efetividade. Foram avaliados 3 pacientes (P1, P2 e P3) de ambos os gêneros com idade média de 22±5,29 anos. A força dos músculos inspiratórios e expiratórios foi avaliada por meio do manovacuômetro e a função muscular de intercostais, diafragma, serrátil anterior e esternocleidomastoideo com eletromiografia, nas condições de pré e pós treinamento muscular. Foram realizadas duas sessões por semana onde na primeira semana os pacientes realizaram reeducação funcional diafragmática associada ao TMR com o uso de resistor de carga linear pressórica fluxo independente com o dispositivo threshold IMT e Pressão expiratória positiva (PEP), nas próximas 4 semanas os pacientes foram orientados a seguir apenas com TMR, sem a realização do exercício diafragmático, totalizando 10 sessões.
