Sept.1952 vo. 67 ing in a continuing series of transactions which are modified because the observer is taking a part in them. Judgment and experience may have taught the neurologist a working equivalent of the transactional viewpoint. What modern psychology has to offer'0 is a formal study of the process itself. CONCLUSIONS There are other large fields of scientific activity from which the neurologist may derive stimulus and practical wisdom, but I have intended this to be a sketch and not a comprehensive survey. One might well ask: How far can a man let his mind's eye wander over the whole field of science without becoming intellectually anaemic? I suggest that an occasional bold foray, perhaps a month or two of one's reading each year, would be worthwhile. It should serve as a stimulus for imagination, which is the necessary companion of fruitful observation.
