Freshness is one of the main quality attributes for processing, marketing and consumption of fish. Fish is increasingly becoming the favored food of people in many countries as it is rich in proteins. However, the disadvantage associated with broader consumption of fish products is their comparatively short shelf-life. Therefore, effective methods for extending shelf-life and improving quality of fresh silver carp fillets are necessary. The goal of this study was to evaluate the biochemical and microbial changes of silver carp fillets in different packaging including aerobic, vacuum and modified atmosphere packaging (MAP) when stored at 4ºC for 15 days. Data obtained from these tests was averaged and subjected to the analysis of variance (ANOVA) using SPSS software. The fillets packaged at MAP had significantly (p<0.05) lower pH, TVB-N, TBA and PV contents than those packaged at vacuum and aerobic packaging. The increase in viable bacterial population was significantly (p<0.05
Danio rerio is one of the most beautiful ornamental fish living in fresh water and tropical water having a lot of fans in our country. This study aimed at investigating the effect of flaked diet with spirulina microalga feeding on growth and survival rates of Danio rerio in Mahshahr, south of Iran in 2014. Three hundred and sixty zebra fish have been purchased and were randomly distributed among 12 aquariums, which the first group or control have been received commercial concentrated food (Energy co.), the 2 nd group were fed basal diet enriched with 4% Spirulina. The 3 rd group received enriched food with 12% of the same supplement diet and and finally, the 4 th group was designed for 25% of Spirulina.
The current study investigates the effect of gamma radiation (0, 1, 3, 5, 7 kGy) and vacuum packaging on shelf-life of silver carp surimi stored at 4 ºC based on variations in pH, peroxide value (PV), thiobarbituric acid (TBA), total volatile nitrogen bases (TVB-N), free fatty acids (FFA), colorimetric parameters (L*, a*, b*), total viable bacterial count (TVC) and textural profile analysis during 15 days. The results indicated that pH did not change with gamma radiation (P> 0.05). Results of oxidative index showed that PV and TBA in surimi reduced significantly with an increase in gamma radiation (P< 0.05) while their increased by increasing the storage time. Irradiation and the storage time significantly increased TVB-N content (P< 0.05). The increase the radiation dose (up to 7 kGy) and the storage time (up to 15 days) had a significant increasing effect on FFA in refrigerated surimi.
This Study was carried out to investigate contamination of heavy metals Hg, Cd, Pb and As in muscle of Barbusgrypus and Capoetacapoeta in Heleh river from Iran. Heavy metal levels in fish samples were analyzed by Perkin Elmer 4100 ZL atomic absorption. The highest concentration of Hg, Cd, Pb and As were measured in muscle of Barbusgrypus and the lowest concentration of Hg, Cd, Pb and As in muscle of Capoetacapoeta. Concentrations of heavy metals Cd, Pb and As in muscle of Barbusgrypus and Capoetacapoeta were showed significant difference (P < 0.05), but for Hg there was no significant difference (P > 0.05). Heavy metal concentrations were higher in the Barbusgrypus, whereas compared with Capoetacapoeta.
