Neste artigo mostramos como algumas estratégias de avaliação (portfólio de matemática, diário de matemática, rubricas, comentários, autoavaliação e conferência) dialogam com a Avaliação Formativa Alternativa (AFA) de Fernandes (2006) e com as Mentalidades Matemáticas de Boaler (2018). Entendemos que educadores e educadoras críticas, na perspectiva freireana, não são meros implementadores de práticas e ideias alheias e que, portanto, buscam refletir sobre suas práticas dentro de um contexto complexo. Deste modo, ao invés de oferecer “instrumentos de avaliação” prontos para serem utilizados, apresentamos reflexões a respeito do processo avaliativo (o que, como e por que avaliar?) partindo brevemente de seus efeitos negativos (classificação, discriminação, ansiedade, distorções no significado do que é e de como se aprende matemática), passando por uma clarificação do que pode significar uma avaliação formativa, e também apresentando elementos de Mentalidades Matemáticas que podem colaborar com a realização da AFA no contexto específico da matemática. Ao final, apresentamos exemplos de estratégias de avaliação que julgamos coerentes com o que foi discutido e que possam ajudar o professor e a professora de matemática em seu próprio contexto de prática e reflexão avaliativa.
