A hipericina (Hp), um cromóforo natural originário de plantas do gênero Hypericum, e a hipocrelina A (HA), cromóforo proveniente do fungo Hypocrella bambusae, vêm ganhando destaque por causa de suas atividades fotossensibilizantes. Sabe-se que a HA pode formar com o íon lantânio um complexo que exibe grande rendimento quântico de geração de oxigênio singleto e janela de absorção deslocada para a região do vermelho, quando comparado à HA. Por esse motivo, a influência da adição dos íons lantânio e európio e de peróxido de hidrogênio nas propriedades da HA e da Hp foi investigada por meio de métodos de espectroscopia óptica. Assim, pôde-se determinar a potencialidade de tais complexos para uso em aplicações biomédicas.
