ABSTRACTThe effects of water levels and potassium fertirrigation on plant growth, production and quality of the fruits of Bônus F1 hibrid tomatoes (Lycopersicom esculentum Mill.) were evaluated in protected environment, in the Horticulture Sector of the Universidade Federal de Lavras, Minas Gerais State, Brazil, with the plants growing on a Dystroferric Red Latosol. Drip irrigation was used at levels of 40, 60, 80 and 100% Kc.Ev, with the dosages 300, 500, 700 and 900 kg.ha -1 of K 2 O (potassium nitrate and potassium chloride) being evaluated. Fertirrigations started 10 days after the transplanting and were done three times a week, during the cycle of the crop. The applied water levels influenced the plants growth at 30, 60 and 90 days, with no effect of potassium fertilization and its interaction with the levels of irrigation on plant growth or on the fruits production being observed. The number of tradable fruits Extra AAA, Extra AA and Extra A increased at 0.462; 0.681 and 1.038 unities.plant -1 for each 20% of increase on the level of irrigation. Brix and soluble pectine increased with the irrigation levels until 100% K c .E v wheres Brix, acidity and pH increased with the potassium levels until 700 kg.ha -1 of K 2 O.INDEX TERMS: tomato, Lycopersicon esculentum, fertirrigation, potassium, quality of fruit.
In Experiment 1 three irrigation regimes (levels equivalents to 50, 75 and 100% of class A pan evaporation, at irrigation intervals of 3, 4 and 5 days, respectively) were tested, two plant densities (13.889 and 10.417 plants ha -1 ) and four nitrogen levels (0, 50, 100 and 150 kg.ha -1 of N) in split-split plot design. In Experiment 2 the same irrigation levels, but in intervals of 3, 5 and 7 days, were tested in ten treatments NPK (50-60-60, 50-120-60, 50-180-60, 100-60-60, 100-120-60, 100-180-60, 150-60-60, 150-120-60, 150-180-60 and 100-120-0 kg.ha -1 ) in the split plot design. The density of 13.889 plants.ha -1 (1.20m x 0.60m) associated to 100 kg.ha -1 of N + 120 kg.ha -1 of P 2 O 5 + 12,500 kg.ha -1 of farm yard manure may be recommended for the irrigated yam crop; the irrigation with a water level equivalent to 75% of class A pan evaporation, at five day intervals, promoted satisfactory results of productivity, mean weight, length and diameter of the yam.
The irrigation water was applied from the beginning of the vegetative phase (90 days after planting) until the end of flowering (2l0 days after planting). The plant density influenced significatively the yam productivity and the density of 15.625 plants.ha -1 presented the best results. Maximum yield and mean weight of yam tubers were obtained with approximately 90kg.ha -1 of nitrogen. The water level corresponding to 70% of available water for plants, gave satisfactory results of vegetative development and productivity.
