Introduction and objective:The article aims to estimate the extent of alcohol use and some other mental health issues among Ukrainians who entered the Czech Republic after 24th February 2022. Previous studies focused on the use of alcohol and other substances among Ukrainians in the Czech Republic can't be applied to the current situation as these studies mostly covered the male population and economic migration that differed considerably from the situation in 2022. Methods: A convenience non-representative online survey was conducted on a sample of 66 Ukrainian refugees in the Czech Republic. Most respondents came to the Czech Republic with their children. Standard questionnaires related to substance use (alcohol, tobacco) were used to determine the reasons for alcohol drinking and possible depression symptoms. Results: According to the results of the AUDIT tool, most respondents can be classified as low risk in terms of alcohol drinking. Some respondents referred to alcohol-related problems. Since the beginning of the war and since arriving in Czechia, there is a high positive correlation between the change in drinking frequency and the change in the amount of alcohol use during a typical drinking occasion. The results also showed a high level of depression symptoms and a high level of smoking. Conclusion:The results are in line with other (rare) research in the field. The importance of alcohol consumption research is stressed, while longer-term research is highly desirable.
The article reveals the features of coordinated rehabilitation – a process that leads to rehabilitating of people with neurological damage that limits their functionality. The purpose of the article is a literature review within the framework of GAJU 066/2022/S, funded by the grant agency of the South Bohemian University of Czech Budejovice, Czech Republic, examining the effectiveness of coordinated rehabilitation in patients recovering from strokes and the use of the standardized Functional Independence Measure (FIM) test to assess the patient’s condition. Data come from current Czech and foreign publications. The EDS multi-finder was used to search for literary sources. Document searches were from 2016-2022 in Czech and English. Search terms include post-stroke rehabilitation, FIM, rehabilitation after stroke, neurorehabilitation, and community based rehabilitation. The start of coordinated rehabilitation of stroke patients should be timely, long-term, comprehensive, and effective, involving a multidisciplinary approach and teamwork. It is essential to develop an individual approach and create a suitable individual plan that allows the use of the FIM test. This is the only way to establish long-term and mutually beneficial cooperation. As the cost of rehabilitation increases, the financial burden on the healthcare system also increases. Caring for a stroke patient also puts various burdens on the family. Successful rehabilitation can reduce the use of costly medicines and materials and decrease the need for nursing care and the term of hospital stay. The social costs of strokes are associated with long-term dependence and a low degree of resocialization. Considering the frequency of strokes and the associated disability, there is an increasing need for coordinated services within coordinated rehabilitation. Gaps in data on coordinated stroke rehabilitation should be filled by providing necessary information about long-term participation in community-based programs.
The Functional Independence Measure and Functional Assessment Measure (FIM + FAM) is an effective, efficient, and objective tool for tracking changes in the motor, cognitive, and psychosocial functions of patients over the entire treatment and rehabilitation period. It is estimated that in the Czech Republic (CR), stroke is the third most common cause of death and the most common cause of adult disability. To develop faster, better, and more cost‑effective stroke treatments and reduce or mitigate functional losses and restrictive situations, it is very important that patients be objectively evaluated, relative to their functional abilities, as soon as possible after a stroke. A critical part of stroke treatment is to calculate the length of in‑hospital treatment and estimate the length of the rehabilitation period after the stroke. Contemporary methods for evaluating and analyzing a patient’s condition are based on test results and evidence. The FIM offers a more sensitive rating scale compared to BI due to the presence of cognitive items and is used worldwide for assessment during the acute stage of the disease. Thus, it is an efficient instrument for setting therapy goals and evaluating the effects of rehabilitation. Not only can it assist the therapist in clinical decision making, but it also functions as a tool for evaluating rehabilitation outcomes. Based on this test, short‑term and long‑term rehabilitation plans can be determined. At the end of the rehabilitation process, assessing the patient’s functional condition helps to predict the specific long‑term rehabilitation services the patient will need as they return to society and regain their quality of life.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
