Este trabajo explora el vínculo entre publicidad y activismo, mediante el análisis de una selección de spots comerciales sobre problemas públicos, presentados por marcas mexicanas en el periodo 2009-2019. La primera fase consistió en buscar y contextualizar los spots, para identificar las marcas y los problemas públicos abordados en la publicidad, tales como la xenofobia y la discriminación, la violencia de género, la contaminación ambiental, entre otros. En la segunda fase se realizó un análisis de contenido cualitativo de tres spots —“Borders” de Aeroméxico, “Make great again?” de Corona y “Palabras a prueba de balas” de Article 19—, mientras que en la tercera se esbozó una exploración del impacto que los spots tuvieron en medios digitales. Los hallazgos permiten ver que las marcas se posicionan como actores relevantes en torno a los problemas públicos, al presentar perspectivas orientadas al cambio social.
