An experiment was conducted to examine the response of four different organic manures viz. farmyard manure, vermicompost, castor cake and poultry manure as a source of nitrogen with or without chemical fertilizers, phosphorus and potassium and biofertilizer i.e. PSB in a randomized block design with three replications during the rabi season of the year 2012 and 2013. The results revealed that, the significantly highest vine length at 60 (86, 84 and 85 cm) and 90 DAS (117, 120 and 119 cm) was recorded with T 15 (Recommended dose of N as Vermicompost + P and K + PSB) during the year 2012, 2013 and in pooled analysis, respectively. The significantly early flowering (58.6, 59.3 and 59.0 days), maximum number of pods per plant (7.4, 7.7 and 7.5) and highest weight of pod (7.3, 7.0 and 7.1 g), maximum yield of pods per plot (5.3, 5.1 and 5.2 kg) and yield of pods per hectare (137.9 q, 134.9 q and 136.4 q) was recorded with T 18 (Recommended dose of N as Poultry Manure + P and K + PSB) during the year 2012, 2013 and in pooled analysis, respectively.
An experiment entitled, influence of different shoot portion and media on vegetative propagation of pomegranate was carried out with two factors viz; shoot portion with three levels and media with seven levels making total twenty one treatment combinations. Experiment was laid out in Factorial Completely Randomized Design with three replications. The results of the present investigation on the basis of pooled data revealed that, minimum days to sprouting (11.33) was recorded with treatment s1 (Apical) whereas, significantly highest length of shoot (9.79 cm), maximum number of roots (8.92) and length of root (8.96 cm) was recorded with treatment s2 (Sub-apical). Among different treatments of media, significantly early sprouting (11.14 days), maximum number of roots per cutting (8.40) and highest length of roots per cutting (8.81 cm) and highest shoot length (9.36 cm) at 60 DAP were observed with treatment m4 (Vermiculite: Poultry Manure [1:1]+ Pseudomonas). Use of sub-apical cutting with Vermiculite: Poultry Manure [1:1]+ Pseudomonas media in plug tray for early sprouting, highest shoot and root parameters of pomegranate under greenhouse condition.
The investigation was undertaken with a view to determine the “Effect of foliar spray of various micronutrients on growth, yield and quality of papaya (Carica papaya L.) cv. Madhu Bindu” and results revealed that the individual application of ZnSO 4 0.5% and borax 0.3% exerted great influence on plant height, stem girth and number of leaves as well as earlier initiation of flower bud and minimum days taken from fruit setting to first harvest. The yield characters i.e. average weight of fruit, number of fruit and yield of fruits per plant with maximum yield per hectare was also recorded maximum with ZnSO4 0.5% and borax 0.3% when the plants sprayed at 30, 60 and 90 days after transplanting. In quality point of view, different levels of ZnSO4 and borax had markedly influenced the quality of papaya fruits i.e., ascorbic acid (mg/100g), total soluble solids (%), reducing sugar (%), non-reducing sugar and total sugar (%).
