ABSTRACTFor several years, the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) has been calling attention to the importance of improving the quality of surveillance data on workers' health in the Americas, in order to achieve better prevention and control of workplace health hazards and to improve workers' health and safety. At present, assessing the burden of occupational accidents and diseases in the Region is difficult due to a lack of reliable surveillance information, difficulties in the diagnosis of occupational diseases, and problems with the notification systems.
