Verkehrsunfälle stellen eine alltägliche Alarmierungsindikation für Rettungsdienst-und Notarzteinsätze dar. Gemäß der S3-Leitlinie Polytrauma/Schwerverletzten-Behandlung besteht, ohne Berücksichtigung des tatsächlichen Patientenzustands, bei einem Verkehrsunfall bereits aufgrund einer "Geschwindigkeitsänderung von delta >30 km/h" eine Indikation zur Alarmierung des Schockraumteams. Vor dem Hintergrund, dass diesem Kriterium präklinisch keine Messwerte zugrunde liegen können, handelt es sich dabei um eine Einschätzung des behandelnden Notarztes. Der dadurch entstehende infrastrukturelle, logistische und personelle Aufwand korreliert häufig nicht mit der vorliegenden Verletzungsschwere. In dieser Studie wurden die Kriterien der o. g. Leitlinie den tatsächlich vorliegenden Verletzungsmustern gegenübergestellt. Im Jahr 2014 verunfallten in Deutschland 392.912 Personen im Straßenverkehr. Hiervon wurden 67.732 als Die Autoren J.C.
