Orbital lifetime estimates for long lifetimes (> 30 years) are presented for initial eccentricities from 0 to 0.95 and for perigee altitudes from 200 to 1600 km. The lifetime estimates are based on a semianalytic form of the equations of motion developed by King-Hele and the latest (1971) Jacchia atmospheric model. A mean 11 year solar cycle based on historical records of the Zurich sunspot number is employed in the calculations. Comparisons are made to previously published lifetime charts.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
