Die Vorschriften über die Antikörper-Mindesttiter für ein y-Globulin-Präparat, das für den Einsatz in der Prophylaxe oder Therapie bestimmt ist, müssen sich auf einige wenige Richtwerte beschränken. So wird von der World Health Organization in den Requirements for Human Immunoglobulin (1) nur verlangt, daß in einer 16% igen y-Globulin-Lösung die Konzentration an Antikörpern gegen eine Virusart und ein Bakterlentoxin mindestens das Zehnfache der Konzentration im Ausgangsmaterial beträgt. In den Public Health Service Regulations der USA(2) werden dagegen mindestens 2 I.E. (= Internationale Einheiten) pro ml an Diphtherie-Antitoxin, für Antikörper gegen Masern das O,2Sfache eines Referenz-Serums, für Antikörper gegen die Poliomyelitis-Typen 1 oder 2 das 1,Ofache bzw. gegen den Typ 3 das 2,Sfache des Gehalts eines Referenz-Poliomyelitis-Immunglobulins verlangt.Dabei gilt für die Prüfung auf Poliomyelitis-Antikörper der Nachweis des Mindestgehaltes an einem der drei Poliovirus-Typen als ausreichend.
