The purpose of the National Shipbuilding Research Program is to apply information technologies that can reduce the cost of building and maintaining US Navy warships. The program targets solutions to consensus priority issues that exhibit a compelling business case to improve the efficiency of the US Shipbuilding and Ship Repair Industry and involves US shipyards, academia, technology companies, and government agencies. The projects are funded by the government with equal cost shared by project participants. The Systems Technology area projects involve all portions of the industry and cover a wide array of projects including: Product Information Modeling, Business Process Technologies, Common Parts Catalog (CPC), Automatic Generation of Control Program for Robotic Welding, Shipyard Design Tool Enhancement, Capturing As-Built Models For 3D CAD Systems, Shipyard Equipment Wireless Monitoring And Control, Open Architecture Standards, and Other Shipyard Computer Applications.
