The article reveals the peculiarities of the formation of students` assessment activity in the process of a conductorchoirmaster preparation. Its structure is determined, and it consists of three interconnected and interdependent sets of actions: formulation of the objective, development of the conductor -choirmaster measuring materials and assessment activity that is connected with quality evaluation of these measuring materials based on the selected assessment model. It is emphasized that formation of students` preparedness for professional assessment is provided by the existence of particular conditions: a) knowledge of the aim and tasks of the expert assessment activity; subjects of professional pedagogic evaluation, program and operational framework of the assessment activity; different standards concerning professional business; b) gaining experience in the implementation of assessment activity by students (the ability to formulate objectives and tasks of the assessment, gain and process the information about the subjects of professional pedagogic assessment activity and manage it; analyze results of the assessment process); c) accumulation of experience in creative assessment activity that requires independent implication of previously acquired knowledge and skills in the new conditions. It is underlined that the building of assessment competences is received by the appropriate planning and organization of the educational process and preparation of its methodological supply: analytical and assessment systems, instructional and analytical assessment maps. It is proved that assessment activity is a necessary component of students` learning and cognitive activity and teachers` professional activity in the process of specialist competence building of a future conductor -choirmaster.Characteristics of the content of the assessment component can be the criteria and indicators of its formation. These include clear methodological viewpoints on the issues concerning the implementation of choirmaster assessment activity or, in other words, systematic approach to the object of assessment, knowledge of assessment criteria and indicators, determination of their significance and the extent of the application (key sets and directions); the degree of skills demonstration connected with self-examination and self-esteem in relation to own vocal and choral competences, possession of self-control in practical work with a choir.
