The pack boronising experiments were carried out on the TC21 titanium alloy using monomer boron powder as the boriding agent with and without rare earth oxide CeO2 respectively. The friction and wear behaviour of boride coated TC21 samples were evaluated using a pin on disc friction tester. The boride layers were investigated by means of X-ray diffraction, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, SEM and optical microscopy. The results show that the boride layers grown on TC21 consist of continuous top layer TÍB2 and sublayer TiB whiskers; with the addition of CeO2 in the boriding agent, the grain size of boride layers is refined, the diffusion efficiency is increased and more TiB changes to TÍB2; the microhardness of the top layer is -3200 HV(10 g); without CeO2, the friction coefficient of boride coated TC21 sample is -0-56, while with the addition of CeO2, it is <0-2. The boride coated TC21 samples show a much better wear resistance than the TC21 substrate.he article describes the research results of steel C30 boroaluminised by isothermal and thermocycle methods in pov\/der mixtures. Thermocycling is performed in the range of 650-950°C. In this study, a comparative analysis of microstructure, composition of elements and microhardness of boroaiuminised steels after various treatments is presented. A series of tensile tests and a plasticity estimation of boroaluminised layer were carried out.
Bearing capacity and durability of corroded steel bars is strongly deteriorated, and the degradation of mechanical properties versus corrosion ratio is topical. Given the random nature of corrosion process, stochastic method can be used to describe mechanical performance of corroded steel bars. In this paper, to simulate marine tidal zone environment, steel bars corroded by chloride solution under dry-wet cycling are studied experimentally, while mechanical performance deterioration of corroded steel bars is analyzed statistically. The corrosion ratios of specimens are found to increase over time for several phases, while their strength dropped with corrosion ratio. The residual nominal strength to corrosion ratio of steel bars is found to be well fitted with the Gumbel distribution, which parameters are calculated and discussed in detail.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
