An analysis has been made of 359 patients with thrombocytopenia—from a health service region in Sweden—in respect of sex, age, cause and course. The incidence of thrombocytopenia is 4.5 male and 7.4 female cases per 100 000 inhabitants and annum. In contradistinction to earlier reports, a large number of cases occur at high ages, probably due in particular to an increase in the number of drug‐induced cases. Drugs have caused 18% of all cases, but the main group (47%) must still, in the absence of an established cause, be denoted as idiopathic.
