Resumo: O artigo aborda a regulamentação dos benefícios eventuais, no campo da Política Nacional da Assistência Social, na ótica de direito do cidadão. Busca-se analisar a regulamentação dos benefícios eventuais, enquanto modalidade dos benefícios socioassistenciais ofertados no Sistema Único de Assistência Social -SUAS, com objetivo de assegurar níveis de proteção de sobrevivência e renda, fortemente demandados em razão da pandemia da COVID-19. Foram adotados como instrumentos metodológicos, numa abordagem qualitativa, a revisão bibliográfica e pesquisa documental de atos normativos, regulamentares e orçamentários. Inicia-se com resgate histórico dos benefícios eventuais. Aborda-se o panorama normativo federal, estadual e nos 18 municípios vinculados ao Escritório Regional de Ponta Grossa da Secretaria da Justiça, Família e Trabalho do Estado do Paraná. Conclui-se que a trajetória normativa dos benefícios eventuais pautou-se pela regulamentação tardia e restritiva que compromete a perspectiva de direito do cidadão, na atualidade, tensionada pelos efeitos sanitários, econômicos e sociais decorrentes da pandemia da COVID-19.
