Embora existam várias plantas forrageiras, anuais e perenes, o milho é uma das culturas mais utilizadas neste processo no Brasil, sendo considerada a cultura padrão. Pesquisas de comparação entre híbridos para produção de silagem de milho são fundamentais para o avanço dos programas de melhoramento genético e importantes na recomendação a técnicos e produtores sobre o híbrido destinado à produção de silagem. O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar as características bromatológicas de híbridos de milho para o cultivo na região da Zona da Mata Mineira. O experimento foi conduzido na Fazenda Nô da Silva, localizada no município de Cajuri, Minas Gerais. Os tratamentos foram constituídos por 24 híbridos com aptidão para silagem. Utilizou-se o delineamento experimental em blocos casualizados, com 24 tratamentos e 2 repetições, totalizando 48 unidades experimentais. Foram avaliadas dez características bromatológicas para cada um dos híbridos. Os dados foram submetidos à análise de variância, com comparação das médias pelo teste de Tukey, a 5% de probabilidade. Foi utilizado um índice de seleção baseado em somatório de variáveis padronizadas (Índice Z). Os resultados obtidos mostraram existir grande variação entre os genótipos testados. O uso do índice Z possibilitou a seleção de híbridos de milho que apresentaram superioridade na maior parte dos caracteres desejados.
