Phonon dispersion relations in KCI at 80 O K have been determined using inelastic neutron scattering. The measurements have been performed mainly in the symmetry directions[loo], [110], and [lll], but also a t some other points in the reciprocal space. More than one third of the phonons in all branches were also studied a t 300 "K in order to obtain an estimate of the temperature dependence of their frequencies. A comparison is made with dispersion curves calculated by Niisslein and Schroder for their "breathing shell" variant of the shell model for ionic crystals. The agreement for the dispersion curves is quite satisfactory in the most cases.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
