The purpose of this study is to analyze the current states and characteristics of the information poor related to library and information services in Korea. This study aims to help libraries and the related authorities understand better the information poor and develop strategies customized with the specific needs of various subgroups, by examining the definitions of major terms from laws, regulations and literatures.This study confirms that most of the information poor have more than one disadvantage, and each subgroup has its own uniqueness and diverse subgroups. It also emphasizes that libraries should take into consideration their uniqueness and multiple difficulties, and develop more user-centered library and information services in order to resolve the information gap.
During the 21st century, the rapid changes in libraries and the information environment require the reassessment of the education and certification of library and information professionals in order to enhance their competencies. The purpose of this study is to elicit and propose preliminary models in order to improve the librarian certification system in Korea. In doing so, the perceptions among librarians and users were surveyed through an online questionnaire methodology. Based on the results of the survey and analyses, a mid-and a long-term plans for improving the overall library certification system have been proposed.
This study is a qualitative research whose purpose is to analyze subjective experiences of permanency planning establishment by persons with mental disabilities. For the purpose, this researcher selected 12 persons with mental disabilities who have been maintaining their job for more than 6 months since they got it independently and then profoundly interviewed them to examine their subjective experiences in permanency planning establishment. Data were collected from Jan. 11th to Feb. 10th, 2011. Statements by the participants were analyzed and, from which, 38 constructed meanings were obtained. Those meanings were grouped and classified according to their similarities. As a result, they were finally categorized into 17 themes and 7 theme clusters.Those 7 clusters included stable job maintenance, self-capacity development, social supports, health management, awareness in preparation for the future, hopeful thinking and various social activities.
