Glycoprotein Ib disappeared from the platelet surface during bypass grafting, most notably in pericardial blood. No increased expression of CD62P, CD63, or PAC-1 was found, indicating the absence of general platelet activation.
We conclude that administration of aprotinin into the pericardial cavity during cardiopulmonary bypass and at concentrations similar to the systemic application does not reduce platelet activation in that compartment or the systemic circulation.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
