Tu den neunziger Jahren des letzten Jahrhunderts hat die Vorderasiatische Abteilung der Staatlichen Museen in Berlin einen größeren Fund von Metallgeräten erworben, der in Soloi-Pompeiopolis im westlichen Kilikien und unweit der modernen Stadt Mersin zutage gekommen war. F. VON LUSCHAN, der den Fund im Globus 81/82, 1902, 295--301 beschrieben hat, sagt über den genaueren Fundort: "Die sämtlichen Stücke sollten in einem Thongef äße gefunden worden sein, das im Jahre 1889 in der Nähe einer großen Steinsetzung durch einen starken Gewitterregen freigelegt und zufällig von einem Hirten entdeckt wurde." LUSCHAN war dann später selbst zusammen mit dem Finder an Ort und Stelle und hat dort auch eine kleine Schürfung vorgenommen. Seine Untersuchungen ergaben, daß die oben genannte Steinsetzung mit dem Fund in keinerlei Zusammenhang stehen kann, da sie der römischen Kaiserzeit angehört. Über die sonstigen Feststellungen an der Fundstelle der Bronzen sagt LUSCHAN : "Neben mittelalterlichen und römischen Scherben, und anscheinend regellos mit ihnen vermengt, wurden allerdings auch einzelne Reste von Gefäßen gefunden, die, wenn man sie mit dem Maßstab von Sendschirli oder Troja messen wollte, sehr alt erscheinen würden. Aber es gelang mir nicht, irgend eine Spur einer älteren baulichen Anlage nachzuweisen." Die Nachforschung.LuscHANS hat also für die Fundverhältnisse keine weiteren Anhaltspunkte ergeben.Soloi ist wahrscheinlich um 700 v. Chr. von Rhodiern besiedelt worden 1 , eine ältere phönikische Ansiedlung an derselben Stelle ist ganz problematisch 2 . Die Münzreihe der Stadt setzt Ende des 4. Jahrhunderts, d. h. zur Zeit der persischen Herrschaft, ein, und Soloi war bis zur Zerstörung durch Tigranes wohlhabend. Dagegen stammen die noch heute oberirdisch erhaltenen, aber zum Teil sehr zerstörten Bauten alle aus römischer Zeit, sodaß wir aus ihnen für die Frage 1 K. J.
