W., Schaumburgstraßc 17b)Es gehört zu den gängigen Einwendungen einer theologisch bestimmten Auslegung des Neuen Testaments gegen die Textkritik, daß sie sich zu sehr mit Kleinigkeiten abgebe; mit wohlwollendem, nicht selten mit belustigtem Lächeln sieht der Exeget dem zu, worüber Textkritiker sich -nach seiner Meinung überflüssig -ereifern. Mit Absicht ist deshalb hier eine scheinbare Belanglosigkeit zum Gegenstand einer Studie gemacht: ein Punkt. Die ältesten Handschriften des Neuen Testaments kennen keine Interpunktion oder doch wenigstens nur Ansätze dazu, das ist eine auch dem Exegeten wohlbekannte Tatsache. Einen Punkt zum Gegenstand einer besonderen Untersuchung zu machen, heißt also doch wohl, eine der kleinsten Kleinigkeiten im Neuen Testament zu betrachten. Wenn sich hier Sinn, ja Notwendigkeit einer solchen Arbeit erweist, sollte Hoffnung darauf bestehen, daß das Lächeln der Exegeten über die »Kleinigkeiten«, denen die Arbeit der Textkritiker oft gilt, einer Einsicht in die Notwendigkeit der Beachtung auch der Details der Überlieferung des neutestamentlichen Textes weicht.An und für sich sollte es nicht notwendig sein, derart zu argumentieren. Das »Greek New Testament« verfügt neben dem text kritischen Apparat über einen zweiten Apparat, in dem die Interpunktionsvarianten nicht nur der modernen griechischen Ausgaben des Neuen Testaments verzeichnet sind, sondern auch die der wichtigsten Über-setzungen in moderne Sprachen. Dieser Interpunktions-Apparat geht auf den Wunsch der Bibelgesellschaften zurück, die das »Greek New Testament« durch ihn seiner speziellen Bestimmung als Vorlage für Übersetzungen in moderne Sprachen besonders anpassen wollten. Denn nicht selten kann eine andere Interpunktion eine völlig andere Interpretation ergeben, alle dadurch gebotenen Möglichkeiten sollten deshalb den Übersetzern von vornherein für ihre Überlegungen zur Verfügung stehen. (5) Wenn wir nach den grundsätzlichen Betrachtungen im vorigen Heft der N.T.S. (S. 303 ff.) jetzt zur Behandlung der neuen Papyri im einzelnen gelangen, empfiehlt es sich wohl, mit 66 zu beginnen. Sein erster Teil (Joh. i–xiv) war 1956 von V. Martin herausgegeben worden und ist dementsprechend im ersten Bericht behandelt worden (.N.T.S. III, 1957, 279 ff.), nachdem ich an anderer Stelle bereits eine Neukollation veröffentlicht hatte (Theologische Literaturzeitung, 87, 1957, 161–84). 1958 erschien, wieder von V. Martin herausgegeben, der Supplementband mit den Fragmenten zu Joh. xiv–xxi. Trotz einer ins einzelne gehenden Untersuchung — oder vielmehr gerade ihretwegen — hatte ich dazu geschwiegen. Nachdem 1962 dieser Supplementband in einer ‘Nouvelle edition augmentée et corrigée avec reproduction photographique complète du manuscrit’, herausgegeben von V. Martin und J. W. Barns, erschienen ist, ist es an der Zeit, das bisher Versäumte nachzuholen.
