Organisations have shifted from traditional beliefs to the incorporation of agile methods for attaining high levels of performance through its established goals and objectives. Emotional intelligence (EI) is envisaged to contribute to the achievement of higher levels of performance. With the current global economic crisis and the pandemic situation, it has become very critical to achieve higher levels of performance with limited resources. Countries confront challenges by way of attaining a higher level of emotional maturity and realisation in order to sail through the current economic storm. The Administrative and Diplomatic Officers (ADOs) are seen to shoulder a heavy responsibility in materialising this shift. This study analyses the impact of EI on organisational performance (OP) in the Malaysian public sector. A survey instrumentation was distributed to 700 ADOs based in Putrajaya, within five selected ministries, obtaining 375 valid responses. The results attained, analysed using the SMART-PLS method, affirm the significant positive effect of EI on OP, suggesting the need for an increase in the EI of civil servants by including EI indicators and measures in the areas of recruitment, learning and development, workforce planning, succession planning, and organisational development. EI should actively be adopted to increase awareness and maturity, which would thus enable civil servants to embrace the current challenging agile environment.
This study employs structural equation modelling technique to examine the direct effect of perceived external corporate social responsibility and perceived internal corporate social responsibility on employee engagement as well as the mediated link through organizational identification. Social exchange theory and social identity theory used to explain the relationships between the variables in this study. It was conducted among 1080 employees of four selected organizations in Iran which are among the main pioneers in performing corporate social activities. The test of research model shows the positive effect of perceived external corporate social responsibility and perceived internal corporate social responsibility on employee engagement. In addition, it confirms that organizational identification has a mediating role in above relationships. The results have also contributed to a better understanding of corporate social responsibility in Iran as a developing country in which corporate social responsibility has recently gained attention and thus there is still a lack of understanding about it. The findings would be useful for managers to have a better insight towards applying corporate social responsibility in line with increasing employees' identification and engagement.
Abstract-The National Physical Plan identified the dire need to reenact the links between isolated forest islands to the central forest spine to protect biodiversity of Peninsular Malaysia's wealth of ecology. With that the peninsula has had its own Central Forest Spine as a milestone documentation aimed at bringing together various players towards achieving the goal, including interplay between state and federal agencies. Despite having documented and approved by the cabinet some years back, little has been achieved so far. While there are some activities that have taken place, the paper explores the predicaments and problems faced in achieving the said goal. Interviews with the senior officers at the respective agencies were the major source of information on this exploratory research. The paper finds there needs to be more concerted efforts by all parties and as such, financial and coordination of plans and activities form the key recommendation of this paper.Index Terms-Forest administration, central forest spine (CFS), forest fragmentations, administrative action in recreating links and institutional roles.
