We propose a generalization to Haskell's type classes where a class can have type parameters besides the placeholder variable. We show that this generalization is essential to represent cent airier classes with overloaded data constructor and selector operations. We also show that the resulting type system has principal types and present unification and type reconstruction algorithms.
Abstract.Introducing aspect orientation to a polymorphically typed functional language strengthens the importance of type-scoped advices; i.e., advices with their effects harnessed by type constraints. As types are typically treated as compile time entities, it is highly desirable to be able to perform static weaving to determine at compile time the chaining of type-scoped advices to their associated join points. In this paper, we describe a compilation model, as well as its implementation, that supports static type inference and static weaving of programs in an aspect-oriented polymorphically typed lazy functional language, AspectFun. We present a typedirected weaving scheme that coherently weaves type-scoped advices into the base program at compile time. We state the correctness of the static weaving with respect to the operational semantics of AspectFun. We also demonstrate how control-flow based pointcuts (such as cflowbelow) are compiled away, and highlight several type-directed optimization strategies that can improve the efficiency of woven code.
Aspect-oriented programming (AOP) has been shown to be a useful model for software development. Special care must be taken when we try to adapt AOP to strongly typed functional languages which come with features like a type inference mechanism, polymorphic types, higher-order functions and type-scoped pointcuts. Our main contribution lies in a seamless integration of these two paradigms through a static weaving process which deals with around advices with type-scoped pointcuts in the presence of higher-order functions. We give a source-level type inference system for a higherorder, polymorphic language coupled with type-scoped pointcuts. The type system ensures that base programs are oblivious to the type of around advices. We present a type-directed translation scheme which resolves all advice applications at static time. The translation removes advice declarations from source programs and produces translated code which is typable in the Hindley-Milner system.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
