SiCp/AZ91 magnesium matrix composite with excellent mechanical properties was prepared by means of extrusion and electrical pulse treatment (EPT). The homogeneous refined microstructure was obtained and the average grain size was refined from 48μm to 0.91μm after EPT. In addition, the maximum yield strength (YS) and ultimate tensile strength (UTS) of the composite reached 480Mpa and 556MPa after extrusion respectively. With the treatment of different EPT parameters, the strength is reduced due to the recrystallization softening effect, but the tensile elongation to failure is improved.EPT can provide additional Gibbs free energy and increase atomic diffusion flux for deformed magnesium matrix composite, besides, SiCp increases dislocation density and energy storage during extrusion deformation, both of which can promote static recrystallization and precipitation phase transformation. Additionally, SiCp can promote the athermal effect of EPT. A large number of Mg 17 Al 12 phase gather around SiCp during EPT process due to SiCp can accelerate phase precipitation. .
