In December 2019, a new disease with pneumonia-like symptoms was spreading throughout Wuhan in China which was entitled as novel coronavirus disease or COVID -19 caused by the virus SARS CoV-2. Within a span of a few days, this disease became a global threat and was termed as a pandemic by the World Health Organization (WHO) on March 11, 2020, since then the disease has affected more than 1.5 crore people worldwide and around 6.9 lakh people in India as of July 5, 2020. The origin of the COVID-19 disease has been traced back to the bats, but the intermediary contact is unknown. The disease spreads by respiratory droplets and contaminated surfaces. In most cases, the virus shows mild symptoms like fever, fatigue, dyspnea, cough, etc. which may become severe if appropriate precautions are not adhered to. For people with comorbidities (usually elderly) the disease may turn deadly and cause pneumonia, Acute Respiratory Disease Syndrome (ARDS), and multi-organ failure, thereby affecting a person's ability to breathe leading to being put on the ventilator support. The reproduction number (Rℴ) of COVID-19 is much higher than its predecessors and genetically similar diseases like SARS-CoV and MERS-CoV. This paper discusses the epidemiological characteristics of the SARS-CoV-2 virus, its phylogenetic relationship with the previous pandemic causing viruses such as SARS-CoV-1 and MERS-CoV and analyzes the various responses to this global pandemic worldwide, focusing on the actions taken by India and their outcomes.
The methods of severe plastic deformation are the procedures of grain refinement of bulk crystalline materials to ultrafine or up-to Nano crystalline structure followed by improvement in mechanical properties of different metals and alloys used for various automobile, aerospace and defence applications. In this research paper, discussion has been made about the comparison of different methods of severe plastic deformation for perfection in microstructure and subsequent changes in mechanical properties for industrial applications. The results achieved by Equal Channel Angular Pressing method are more useful for grain refinement by the reason of high imposed shear strain in the material. It has also been observed that using this method strength is also increased with ductility as desired in most of the cases. It can be concluded here that detailed study is still to be explored after processing the material after severe plastic deformation.
Efficient and innovative products can be made using high strength and lighter weight (almost half the steel weight) in modern-day automobile industries. One such material is Carbon Fiber, and it is used as its composites made with the help of epoxy resins. Carbon Fibers applications are increasing in use, in both the aerospace and automobile industries. The corrosion resistance and damping properties of the material can be put to better use in constructions that are heavily strained. The paper aims to review the manufacturing of Carbon fiber composites and their mechanical properties (tensile & flexural strength), which ultimately deals with their applications in the automobile industry. Also, it deals with a review of a few methods or substances used to improve the mechanical properties of carbon fiber composites.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
