Abstract. Aim: To examine the role of radiation therapy (RT) and factors' influence on tumor control for angiosarcoma of the face and scalp (AS-FSAngiosarcoma is a rare malignant tumor that most commonly involves the skin and subcutis, particularly that of the face and scalp of elderly people (1). Angiosarcoma of the face and scalp (AS-FS) is an aggressive form with high propensity for local recurrence and early metastatic spread.

Background: To evaluate the long-term efficacy and toxicity of radiation therapy in patients with Stage IE primary ocular adnexal mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue lymphoma. Methods: We designed a retrospective analysis to evaluate 81 patients with ocular adnexal mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue lymphoma treated with radiation therapy between 2006 and 2016. The median radiation dose was 30 Gy (range, 30-36 Gy in 15-18 fractions). Local control, progression-free survival, overall survival, and cumulative incidence of Grade 3 cataract were calculated by using the Kaplan-Meier method. Result: The median follow-up time was 74 months (range, 4-157 months). The 5-year local control was 100%. Although local relapse was suspected in 3 patients after radiation therapy, 2 patients were pathologically diagnosed as IgG4-related inflammation and in 1 patient as intense inflammatory cell infiltration. The 5-year progression-free survival was 94.4%. Five patients had relapse at distant sites. The 5-year overall survival was 98.8%. Twenty patients had Grade 3 cataract. The 5-year cumulative incidences of Grade ≥ 3 and Grade ≥ 2 cataract for 58 patients treated without a lens shield were 38 and 40%, respectively. The incidence of Grade ≥ 3 cataract was 42% for 50 patients treated with 6-MV X-rays (estimated lens dose: 29 Gy) and 17% for 8 patients treated with 9-MeV electrons (estimated lens dose: 24 Gy). Conclusions: Radiation therapy alone yielded excellent local control and long-term survival in Stage IE ocular adnexal mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue lymphoma. Long-term observation with careful attention to relapse at distant sites is necessary. In the case of suspected local relapse, IgG4-related disease should be carefully ruled out.

Local field radiotherapy is a considerable treatment option for postoperative loco-regional recurrence of esophageal cancer.

Palliative radiotherapy in the local management of stage IVB esophageal cancer is an effective treatment option for dysphagia. Factors highly associated with improvement of swallowing are age, tumor location, and tumor length. Response to radiotherapy is the most important factor in improving NSFS.

Summary:Reirradiation to previously irradiated peripheral bone metastases for pain has been shown to be safe and effective, but no specific trial has been completed to define the indications for reirradiation of patients with recurrent symptoms of metastatic bone disease. Thus, we aimed to assess the effectiveness and prognostic factors of reirradiation for painful bone metastases. To do so, we reviewed the cases of 14 patients with painful bone metastases who had undergone reirradiation at our hospital. A favorable pain response after reirradiation was achieved in 50% (7/14) of the patients. An interval from initial radiotherapy > 6 months was a significant prognostic factor for pain response (p = 0.03). Performance status was correlated with pain response, with borderline significance (p = 0.06). No severe adverse events were reported. We conclude that reirradiation of painful bone metastases is effective in providing pain relief, especially for patients with a long interval from initial radiation and good performance status.

The present study aimed to describe the clinical results of re-irradiation (Re-RT) for spine or pelvic bone metastasis at the same initial irradiated area. Between April 2010 and March 2014, cases involving 98 patients with spine or pelvic bone metastasis who had undergone Re-RT at five institutions were reviewed. The clinical outcomes following Re-RT were evaluated, including overall survival (OS) and severe adverse events. The median time interval from initial radiation therapy (RT) to Re-RT was 439 days (range, 23–4,993 days), and the median duration of patient follow-up was 256 days (range, 11–2,284 days). The median biological effective dose for the Re-RT was 150 Gy2 (range, 17–240 Gy2; α/β = 2). Severe late adverse events occurred in two patients who underwent three-dimensional conformal radiotherapy for lumbar spine or pelvic bone metastases, which may be associated with tumor progression. The median survival time following Re-RT was 255 days, and the actuarial OS rate at 1 year was 36%. The interval between initial RT and Re-RT, and their performance statuses (PS) were significant independent prognostic factors for OS rates in multivariate analysis. Re-RT for spine or pelvic bone metastases is a relatively acceptable option with low risk of anticipated severe adverse events, particularly for patients with good PS following a long disease-free interval.
