Les hommes ayant des rapports sexuels avec des hommes (HSH) sont ignorés dans les programmes de santé en Afrique en général, et au Togo en particulier, car leur existence même est niée. Pour contrer ce déni, une étude exploratoire conduite en 2006 dans quatre villes du Togo et basée sur l’approche ethnographique par les pairs, a touché 122 HSH et a prouvé leur existence. L’étude décrit l’organisation de la communauté des HSH et leurs problèmes par rapport au VIH. Ceci a permis à Population Services International (PSI) d’implanter un programme de dépistage du VIH et de promotion de comportements sexuels sains vis-à-vis du VIH/Sida à leur intention.
