Die spezifischen I-Ieilversuche gegen Tuberkulose nahinen stets ihren Ausgangspunkt im Ko chschen Tuberkelbazillus, als dem Erreger und der Ursaehe der Tuberkulose. Lange Zeit hindurch experimentierte man mit dem Tuberkulin, d. i. mit dem Gifte, welches eine Zeit hindurch als Stoffwechselprodukt des Bazillus; spi~ter als dessen nach Absterben frei gewordene Leibessubstal~z aufgefaBt wurde. Diese Anderung in der Auffassung ist auf den Umstand zuriickzufiihren, dab sich dieses Toxin biologisch anders verh~lt, als z. B. das Stoffweehselprodukt des Diphtherie-oder des Tetanusbazillus, es ist auf den gesunden Organismus ganz wirkungslos, hingegen 15st es Reaktion aus im 0rganismus, welcher yon der Krairkheit befallen ist, oder, welcher die Tuberkelbazillen selbst ohne Krankheitserscheinungen enth~lt. Man muBte mit der Zeit einsehen, dab die Tuberkulose als Krankheit nicht eine Tuberkulinkrankheit ist, und allein dutch Tuberkulin auch nicht geheilt werden kann. Die Aufmerksamkeit wendete sich nun dem Bazillenleibe zu, der n~chst dem Tuberkulin, auch noch andere sch~dliche, also krankmachende Substanzen enthalten sell. Um allen Anforderungen zu entspreehen, wurde nun der Bazillus im ganzen und besonders in seine minuzi6sesten Bestandteile zerlegt (Partialantigene), einzeln und zusammen in verschiedensten Kombinationen als Vakzin und als Antigen zur Bereitung yon ttei]sera verwendet. Naeh Babes, l~iemann, Maragliano und Anderen haben besonders W. G. Ruppel und ~W. Rickmann sich der LSsung dieser Frage gewidmet. Letztere Autoren schrieben bisherige MiBerfolge dem Umstande zu, dab friihere Autoren die Heilserumerzeugung an solehen Tieren vornahmen, welche nicht tuberkulSs waren und aus diesem Grunde aber auch keine F~higkeit besitzen konnten, auf Tuberkulin oder auf Bazillenantigen zu reagieren, somit kormten diese Tiere anch kein spezifisch wirksames Heilserum abgeben. Ruppel und Rickmann haben nun Tiere vorerst tuberkulinempfindlieh gemacht und haben sie erst dann mit Tuberkelbazillenantigen behandelt. Sie haben ein, die verschiedensten spezffisch serobiologische Eigenschaften besitzendes Serum erzeugt.
