Citrus is a highly priced fruit crop having significant importance in the fruit economy of our country. It is the second fruit crop in India with respect to area and third largest with respect to production after mango and banana. Acid Lime (Citrus aurantifolia Swingle), from the family Rutaceae originated in India and then spread to the Middle East and other tropical and subtropical countries. The major citrus producing countries are Brazil,
The objective of this study was to investigate the influence of blanching, dehydration and packaging on nutrient composition of Amaranthus gangeticus and Spinach oleracea. There was a loss of sugars, Proteins, vitamin-c and carotenoids were noticed due to blanching. But the colour of green leafy vegetables (GLV) is retained due to blanching. Leafy vegetables were dehydrated in cabinet dryer at 60 o C and packed in three packaging materials (Metalized polypropylene (MPP) 300 gauge, high density polyethylene (HDPE) 300 gauge, low density polyethylene (LDPE) 200 gauge) and stored at room temperature for 45 days to evaluate the best package for maximum retention of nutrients in leafy vegetables during storage. PP followed by HDPE was found to be good for retention of nutrients in dehydrated leafy vegetables during 45 days of storage. Irrespective of the losses of nutrients that take place during dehydrated packaging, GLV can be preserved by dehydration which is eco-friendly and easily adoptable.
In recent days, several technological innovations were proposed in order to improve the production and sustainability through a significant reduction in use of agrochemicals. One 0f the best approach to increase crop productivity is the utilisation of environment-friendly organic products such as “Biostimulants”. There are different types of substances that act as biostimulants namely humic and fulvic acid, protein hydrolysates and other N-containing compounds, Seaweed extract and botanicals, Chitosan and other biopolymers, Inorganic compounds, beneficial fungi and bacteria. These biostimulants plays an important role in improving the plant growth, yield and quality of the product. The guava fruits coated with chitosan 1% and stored at 12°C had shown higher firmness, TSS, titratable acidity and maintained greenness with a slow increase in yellow colour by the end of storage. Knowledge on effective use of these biostimulants by understanding their properties has become a challenge to the researchers to improve yield, quality and shelf life of different horticultural products.
during the year 2017-18. The experiment comprised of twelve (12) treatments replicated thrice and was laid out in a Randomized block design. The 4 varieties of banana viz., Champa (AAB), Bantala (ABB), Patkapura (AAB) and Grand Naine (AAA) together constituted 12 treatments using 3 different propagation methods (Macropropagation, Micropropagation and Sucker propagation). The standard recommended packages of practices were followed in each treatment comprising of 10 plants. Observations in respect to vegetative character of banana were analysed statistically and it was found that micropropagated Grand naine showed maximum girth(68.82cm), maximum leaves (43.09) and leaf length along with that it took least number of days for shooting (258.21days), whereas, maximum plant height was attended in micropropagated Bantala (221.72cm) and micropropagated champa exhibited maximum leaf width.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
