The promotion of the long-term use of high-quality building stock is a very important subject. To accomplish this, it is necessary to understand the long-term changes in the properties of insulation materials.In this research, we verified the durability of glass wool by conducting a survey of the changes in this insulation with long-term use and by performing an acceleration test. As a result, it was found that under high-temperature and high-humidity conditions, the strength of the glass fiber decreases, and the binder deteriorates. However, the thermal conductivity did not increase.We then developed a piercing test to evaluate the aging of glass wool. Finally, we attempted to predict the aging by applying a life prediction model to the accelerated test.
The aim of this study was to clarify energy demand structure of residential and commercial sectors in the Furano area in Hokkaido. First, we investigated the characteristics and energy consumption of public facilities owned by the municipalities, and we determined the energy consumption rate and monthly fluctuation of energy consumption for each building use. Next, in order to consider the area management by Furano City in the future, we estimated the urban energy demands of residential and commercial sectors and analyzed the spatial distribution characteristics of energy demand, and we clarified the area in which the use of energy in a network is effective.
Thermal insulation of windows is particularly important for reducing load, one of the energy-saving methods. The purpose of this study is to quantitatively evaluate the effectiveness of the components of thermally insulated PVC windows in providing thermal insulation and to propose a process for determining optimal components. In this study, we show the effects of each elemental technology on insulation performance, (elemental technologies are expected to contribute to the thermal insulation of the frame and glazing parts), and verify the optimal conditions. We then show the insulation performance of the window under the combined optimum conditions. Also, we report the results of the insulation performance test conducted on samples.
The thermal performance and equipment type specified for a newly built house were investigated as benchmarks to enable the selection of appropriate insulation and equipment specifications. The prevalence of electric heater installations for space heating and hot water supply decreased in 2012, compared to 2011. However, it is estimated that the primary energy consumption is high in particularly cold areas of Hokkaido, because this type of equipment remains common in these areas. Because there is an initiative to contractors when the equipment type is determined, it is important to provide appropriate information to these contractors.
