Objective
To determine the long‐term results and assess the quality of life in patients with continent urinary diversions after cystectomy.
Patients and methods
Eighty‐six consecutive patients who received a continent urinary diversion from 1988 to 1994 at the Vancouver Hospital and Health Sciences Center were evaluated. The evaluation comprised a review of their hospital charts and clinic visits at 3 months and then yearly. Quality of life issues were assessed using a postal questionnaire pertaining to the patient’s urinary symptoms, activity level and overall well‐being while living with a continent urinary diversion. Two separate questionnaires were sent, addressing heterotopic or orthotopic diversions.
Results
There was an acceptable rate of complications, with stone formation and urinary tract infection as the most common morbidities. Continence was rated as good in most patients, with no patient reportingcomplete incontinence. Undesirable urinary symptoms occurred less often than 20% of the time in most patients. Although there was a significant effect on sex life, the overall quality of life appeared to be very good, as 70% of the patients had no limitations to their activities.
Conclusions
The techniques currently evolved for urinary diversion produce good long‐term results and quality of life. These diversions should be considered in a well selected patient population.
Sustained aperiodic oscillation, or chemical chaos, has been observed to occur in the reaction between chlorite and thiosulfate at pH 4 in a flow reactor via two different routes. In the first, chaotic behavior is found between successive regions of increasingly complex periodic oscillation as the residence time is increased. The second route occurs only at higher [ClO−2]0. At high flow rates, a periodic low frequency oscillation is observed. On decreasing the flow rate, bursts of a second higher frequency oscillation appear, the system becomes quasiperiodic, chaotic and then finally periodic at the higher frequency. Both types of chaos are analyzed in terms of an experimentally determined cubic next amplitude map for the system.
With the importance of aesthetics in current preschool curriculum, children's aesthetics development and deloading learning plays a special attention to the relationship between technology instruments and the three critical early childhood education activities, namely music teaching and learning, visual arts and children's pretend play in early childhood education. A rigorous literature review in Dewey, Steiner and Vygotsky explore the argument that technology instruments play a crucial role in children's daily lives. After carefully elaborating the relevant literature, this study arrives at three major conclusions firstly, indeed technology instruments in music teaching facilitate the quality and efficiency in the young children's learning motivation. Secondly, technology instruments in visual arts facilitate the quality and efficiency in the learning motivation of children and finally, technology instruments of music facilitate children's performance in their pretend play, especially in terms of emotional expression, emotional regulation, emotional utilization and interpersonal relationships. Further, the study reveals that during the application of technology instrument in children's music, visual-arts and pretend play, adults' scaffolding and assistance is no doubt necessary during children's learning and development process.
