The different parameters on physico-chemical characteristics especially the free fatty acid (FFA), peroxide values, iodine values, lipid class composition and major elements of shrimp head waste were studied. The oil was fractionated into mono, di and triglycerides by silicic acid column chromatography. The calcium ranged from 3.26mg/100 gm to 5.08 mg/100 gm, magnesium 4.79mg/100gm to 7.02 mg/100gm, sodium 51.09 mg/100gm to 73.05 mg/100gm and potassium 52.91 mg/100gm to 83.07 mg/100gm respectively. The percentage of crude protein is 49.47.

Experiments on the mass culture of Ceriodaphnia reticulata (Jurine) were carried out in aquarium water for 54 days with different media like cowdung (1.5g/L), pulse bran water (50g/L), poultry manure (0.45g/L) and snail faeces (faeces of six apple snails). All the media were fertilized by 50-100% of the initial amount of feed in every 7 days. About 100 individuals of C. reticulata were inoculated as starter in 50 litres of water (2 individuals/ml).The temperature of the media ranged from 24-30 o C during study period. p H of the culture media varied i.e., 9.1 ± 0.40 in cowdung; 8.72 ± 0.73 in pulse bran water, 8.82 ± 0.72 in poultry manure and 7.5 ± 0.55 in snail faeces. The highest average population of C. reticulata was observed in cowdung (8.56 ± 4.11individuals/ml), moderate in poultry manure (4.21 ± 2.97 individuals/ml) and snail faeces (2.52 ± 3.01individuals/ml). The lowest growth of C. reticulata was recorded in pulse water (0.37 ± 0.69 individuals/ml). The culture media with cowdung as well as poultry manure and snail faeces were found to be useful for artificial mass production of C. reticulata.
Xylocoris flavipes (Reuter) is one of the dominant predators of many stored product insect pest including Cryptolestes pusillus. The influence of temperature on predator development, survival and some selected life history parameters was determined. Eggs laid/female (27.27±2.52) and egg hatching rate (%) (88.25±2.19) were highest at 30°C and lowest at 20°C (5.43±1.19 and 30.79±4.63%) respectively but no eggs laid at 15°C. Mortality among immature stages (%) was highest (51.71±1.48) at 35°C and lowest (24.25 c ±1.14) at 25°C. Developmental times decreasing with the increasing of temperature. Maximum numbers of progeny/female/day (3.55±0.76) were produced at 25°C and minimum (0.83±0.04) were at 20°C.The sex ratios (% female) of X. flavipes were 47.04, 56.68, 51.66 and 50.07 for 20, 25, 30 and 35°C respectively. Survivorship of ovipositing females was highest at 25°C but lowest at 35°C respectively.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
