Este trabalho discute o mais recente e provavelmente o mais bem-sucedido filme hollywoodiano até o momento, Avatar, em relação ao conceito de “cultura” e seus significados básicos. São questionados a idéia da civilização apresentada no filme, a sua forte crítica ecológica e anti-imperialista, o problema da identidade cultural e a questão da indústria cultural, da qual o filme é um produto exemplar. Finalmente defende-se a idéia de um ensino universitário integrativo de literatura e cultura, abrangindo também os estudos audiovisuais.
This lecture deals with the development of the post-war radio drama in Germany.
O presente artigo apresenta a peça musical “Ascensão e queda da cidade de Mahagonny”, da fase áurea da colaboração entre Bertolt Brecht e Kurt Weill. Nossa leitura ecocrítica do libreto brechtiano focaliza no tratamento que os elementos do mundo natural recebem na peça, além de investigar a relação entre a comunidade humana de Mahagonny e a natureza em geral. Analisamos a ameaça de destruição da cidade por um furacão em relação à ideia do sublime formulada por Kant e Schiller e retomada por Lyotard duzentos anos mais tarde. Finalmente, retomamos a questão da relação humanos – natureza na peça a fim de levantar o problema básico que nos assalta hoje: a destruição ambiental a nível planetário resultante da globalização do modelo Mahagonny.
Resumo:Crítica da figuração do Outro na ópera iluminista de Mozart e Schikaneder. O presente artigo investiga a Flauta Mágica como narrativa identitária, que conta da formação da subjetividade do protagonista masculino e do papel do feminino nesse processo. Além disso, as figuras do meio-selvagem branco Papageno e do malvado negro Monostatos são questionadas a partir de observações histórico-culturais de uma perspectiva pós-colonial. Said, um dos pais da teoria pós-colonial e entendido em música clássica, incluiu um pequeno capítulo intitulado The Empire at Work: Verdi's Aida, onde trata da famosa ópera egípcia de Verdi: "many great aesthetic objects of empire are remembered without the baggage of domination […]. Yet the empire remains, in inflection and traces, to be read, seen, and heard. And by not taking account of the imperialist structures of attitude and reference they suggest, even in works like Aida, which seem unrelated to the struggle for territory and control, we reduce those works to caricatures […]." (SAID 1994, p. 130) Said mostra como Aida está cheia de estereótipos ocidentais em relação ao Egito e localiza a gênese da obra verdiana e a sua encenação no Cairo, no * Professor da UFPR, mestre em Literatura alemã pela Universidade de Hamburg/Alemanha, doutor em Linguística pela Universidade de Osnabrück/Alemanha. 104ambiente do imperialismo europeu dos anos 60 e 70 do século XIX. A sua análise não pode ser simplesmente transferida para a Flauta Mágica, uma obra oriunda de um contexto cultural e político bem diferente, mas pode servir de orientação básica.A Viena da última década do século XVIII é a capital do Império AustroHúngaro, que domina grandes partes da Europa Central e Sudeste, incluindo cidades tão diferentes como Amsterdã, Milão e Budapeste. Certamente, a Flauta Mágica não faz parte do legado cultural do colonialismo como Aida, mas ocupa seu lugar dentro da complicada topografia social do Império dos Habsburgos.Ademais, tem-se a impressão de que essa ópera de Mozart está no centro da cultura européia e, principalmente, no coração da cultura de língua alemã. O germanista suíço Peter von Matt considera a Flauta Mágica, ao lado do Hamlet shakespeariano e da Mona Lisa de Leonardo, o terceiro grande mistério da nossa cultura, uma obra enigmática que nunca será revelada (apud BORCHMEYER 2005, p. 80) -"nossa cultura", aqui, significa a cultura ocidental.Nos países de língua alemã, a Flauta Mágica é a ópera mais visitada e mais encenada até hoje.Numa cidade européia grande como a Viena no final do século XVIII, a distância entre a cultura da elite aristocrática e a cultura popular era enorme. Mozart escreveu várias óperas-sérias exclusivamente para a corte e a elite aristocrática do Império Austro-Húngaro. O lugar social da Flauta Mágica, porém, é diferente....
