Background/Objectives The negative impacts of Job-related burnout on job performance have been widely documented in the literature. Burnout accounts for both physical and mental health outcomes that increase work turnover in teachers, especially those who teach special needs children, like those with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD). The current study assessed the effectiveness of Rational Emotive Occupational Health Coaching (REOHC) in minimizing job burnout amongst autistic children teachers in Anambra state, Nigeria. Method The study used a group-randomized waitlist control trial design. teachers who teach ASD children in private and public special and inclusive schools participated in the study. All participants were randomly allocated to REOHC and waitlist group (WLG). REOHC group were exposed to a single session 120 min REOHC programme every week for 12 weeks. Data were collected using Maslach Burnout Inventory for Educators (MBI-ES), at baseline; post-intervention as well as follow-up evaluations 1 and 2 evaluations. All the data gathered for the study were analysed using mean, Standard Deviation (SD), t-test statistics, repeated measures ANOVA, and charts. Results Results indicated a significant decrease in teachers’ burnout, following REOHC intervention, which was sustained through follow-ups 1 and 2. Conclusion In conclusion, we stated that REOHC is valuable in treating burnout symptoms in teachers of children with ASDs.
Peace, the pristine aspiration of humanity seems to have evaded the contemporary age. Therefore, bloody conflicts have ravaged human race from dateless past to the present. However, humanity has attempted to put in place certain socio-political mechanism to grapple with this insidious phenomenon. In spite of the various mechanisms, war has continued to persist with greater intensity. Experts attributed its persistence to human greed, personal enterprise and violation of certain social capitals. Africa which had track record of peaceful estate in her traditional history is now synonymous with conflict in modern history. Thus, she is described as one of the most volatile part of the world. Consequently, world communities have become concerned on how to stop or at least reduce it to the barest. Therefore; many have come up with propositions as to the cause of conflict in this region and consequently suggested steps to stopping it. However, this work has taken historical, socio-political and cultural approach to the study of conflict in this region. It found that the recent upsurge of conflict in Africa is predicated on the fact that certain social values and norms have been violated. The basic institution sustaining the social structure have been neglected and abandoned. This paper also discovered that one major cause of the upsurge of conflict in Africa is the dislodging of the women from the public sphere and her abandonment of her divine role.. We therefore underscore that if peace must return to Africa, women must return to their legitimate social role. We used the Igbo example to justify our assumption.
The clamour for socio-political restructuring of Nigeria has reached its climax, hence scholars of diverse field have engaged themselves in the debate, resulting to barrage of extant literatures. The major concentration of these literatures is the socio-political and economic restructuring, which may lead to regionalization, resource control and/or secession. The current work envisions some hiccups in this model and opt for an alternative restructuring paradigm that will address the fundamental questions of human life, integrity and social justice. In adopting socio-anthropological and historical methods, this work took serious survey of extant literatures in form of archival, internet materials and books on Igbo community living. It therefore, discovers that the socio-political restructuring will not solve the problem of ethnicity, religious politics and bigotry. Hence it concludes that a viable option for Nigeria restructuring is moral, values and mental restructuring/orientations via Igbo community living archetype.
