This survey demonstrates that there is universal deficiency in both the knowledge and practice of pediatricians in the field of PID. Implementation of strategies to improve the awareness of pediatricians about PID is critical so early therapeutic interventions can be done to improve the health and prevent morbidity and mortality.
Data from 37 patients who underwent a transmetatarsal amputation from January 1993 to April 1996 were reviewed. The mean age and diabetes duration of the subjects were 54.9 (+/- 13.2) years and 16.6 (+/- 8.9) years, respectively. The follow-up period averaged 42.1 (+/- 11.2) months. At the time of follow-up, 29 (78.4%) of the 37 patients still had foot salvage, 8 (21.6%) had progressed to below-the-knee amputation, and 15 (40.5%) had undergone lower-extremity revascularization. Twelve (80%) of the 15 revascularized patients preserved their transmetatarsal amputation level at a follow-up of 36.4 months. The authors concluded that at a maximum of 3 years follow-up after initial amputation, transmetatarsal amputation was a successful amputation level.
BackgroundEarly diagnosis of food allergies (FA) is important for a favorable prognosis. This study aimed to determine the level of awareness of FA among pediatricians in Kuwait.MethodA 43-item self-administered questionnaire was designed and distributed to pediatricians working at 4 government hospitals in Kuwait.ResultsA total of 140 pediatricians completed the questionnaire, with a participation rate of 51.1% (81 males and 59 females). The mean age of participants was 40.81 years, and the mean number of years working in pediatrics was 13.94 years. The mean overall knowledge score was 22.2. The pediatricians’ overall knowledge scores were found to be significantly associated with their age (older pediatricians had higher overall scores) and years of experience as a pediatrician but were independent from hospital site, gender, or rank. A multiple linear regression revealed pediatrician age and gender were the only variables that were significantly associated with the overall knowledge score. Only 16.4% of the participants answered at least 2/3 of the survey questions correctly. The questions that were correctly answered by ≤ 2/3 of the participants constituted 80% of clinical presentation questions, 66.6% of diagnostics questions, 77.7% of treatment questions, and 42.8% of prevention questions. Interestingly, among 68 pediatricians (48.5%) who determined that they felt comfortable evaluating and treating patients with FA, only 12 (17.6%) passed the questionnaire.ConclusionsThis survey demonstrates that there is a noteworthy deficiency of pediatricians’ awareness about FA. The implementation of strategies to improve pediatricians’ awareness is critical to diagnose food allergy patients early and improve their health and outcomes.
Delivering high-quality service is critical to the café's performance in order for it to survive and grow competitively. This paper aims to identify the impact of service quality on customer satisfaction in the context of cafés before customers enter the café, during the experience, and after leaving. The paper used a mixed-method approach using a qualitative method by applying two interviews with focus groups, and a quantitative method by conducting three online questionnaires. Further, several quality management tools, namely: Affinity diagram, Interrelationship diagram, Tree diagram, Process decision program chart (PDPC), Matrix diagram, Prioritization matrix, and Quality function deployment (QFD) were implemented to assess the problems that confront the café while serving customers and to figure out solutions to solve these problems. The issues regarding the café's service quality are categorized into seven main categories which are menu, place, communication with customers, B2C customers, B2B customers, suppliers, and employees. The house of quality (HFQ) represents 22 factors of customer needs, the highest percentage refers to hiring a third party whereas the lowest percentage describes the need for providing pre-prepared food. The paper revealed that to improve the customer journey and enhance the café's performance, the café needs to always maintain a high level of quality, listen to employees' concerns, use automation systems, and collect data and plan accordingly.
