This study aimed to identify the relationship between the violence against social workers who are working for the Palestinian Ministry of Social Affairs by the clients of the Ministry, and the social workers’ motivations to continue working in this profession. The researcher used the descriptive deductive method to interpret and analyze violence against social worker and their motivation. The sample contains (18) social workers who are working for the Ministry of Social affairs. Results indicated that negative correlation exists between verbal violence against social workers, and motivation to continue working, where as long as the motivation to work increased, verbal violence decreased. Results demonstrated that negative correlation exists between physical violence and motivation to continue working in the profession, therefore, as the physical violence increased, motivation to work in social work profession decreased. The findings also indicated statistical variation in the motivation to work in the service according to the age. Young social workers are more motivated to continue working in the service than older ones. in conclusion, The major recommendations are: there is a need for a comfortable environment that provides professional and safety which will encourage the workers to have more motivations to continue functioning in their jobs
هدفت الدراسة إلى التعرف على العلاقة بين العُنف الموجّه ضدّ الأخصائيين الاجتماعيين العاملين في وزارة الشؤون الاجتماعيّة الفلسطينيّة من قِبَل المنتفعين والدافعيّة للاستمرار في مهنة الخدمة الاجتماعيّة، واستعان الباحثان بالمنهج الوصفيّ التحليليّ لتفسير العلاقة بين العُنف المُوجّه ضدّ الأخصائيين ودافعيتهم للعمل وتحليلها، وتكوّنت العيّنة من (18) أخصائيًّا اجتماعيًّا يعملون في وزارة الشؤون الاجتماعيّة. وأشارت النتائج إلى وجود علاقة عكسيّة بين العُنف اللفظيّ الموجّه ضدّ الأخصائيين الاجتماعيين، وبين الدافعيّة لديهم للاستمرار في العمل، فكلما ازدادت الدافعيّة للاستمرار في العمل، قلّ العُنف اللفظيّ، وأظهرت النتائج أيضا وجود علاقة عكسيّة بين التعرّض للعُنف الجسديّ، وبين الدافعيّة في الاستمرار في العمل بمهنة الخدمة الاجتماعيّة. أيّ أنّه كلّما ازداد التعرّض للعُنف الجسديّ، قلّت الدافعيّة في العمل بمهنة الخدمة الاجتماعيّة، ومن أهمّ ما أوصى به الباحثان ضرورة العمل على توفير بيئة أكثر آمنة ومريحة، فيها شروط السلامة المهنيّة والصحيّة التي تجعلهم يعملون بكل دافعيّة في العمل بمهنة الخدمة الاجتماعيّة.
This study examines the relationship between violence against social workers and their motivation to continue working in the field in Palestine. A questionnairewas administered to 67 social workers. The main results show that when violence against social workers increases, their motivationto continue working in the field decreases.In addition, the results reveal that femalesocial workers showed higher motivationto continueworking in the field than male social workers who faced the same degree of violence; younger social workers showed higher motivation to continue in the field compared to seasoned counterparts. Implications for social work practice are discussed.
