The traumatic bone cyst, an uncommon lesion of the jaws, belongs to the category of 'pseudocyst' owing to its lack of a lining epithelial membrane. It is an asymptomatic lesion, which is often diagnosed accidentally during routine radiological examination commonly present in the posterior mandible as a unilocular radiolucency with scalloping borders. The exact etiopathogenesis of the lesion is still debated, though the role of trauma is often associated. Here we report a rare case of traumatic bone cyst in the anterior mandible, in a 16-year-old female patient with a previous history of trauma to chin; diagnosed and treated successfully in our surgical unit. The case is discussed in relation to its clinical presentation, etiopathogenesis, diagnosis, management and prognosis.

The unique morphology of dilacerated and S-shaped root canals often pose utmost challenges in their endodontic management. Common causes of failures in such cases are primarily related to procedural errors such as ledges, fractured instruments, canal blockages, zip and elbow creations. Knowledge of dental anatomy and its variations is essential for the success of endodontic treatment. A clinician is required to have an insight of the morphology of tooth related to its shape, form and structure before commencing treatment. Routine periapical radiographs aids in assessing these morphological variations in the root canal system. This article gives a review of the literature and reports an interesting case of dilacerated and S-shaped root canals of adjacent teeth in the same patient.

Introduction:The newer preventive approach to caries has resulted in the increased use of remineralizing agents. The remineralizing ability of green tea and black tea is under research. Materials and methods:Two hundred premolar teeth were collected and a buccal window was exposed on the tooth sample by coating the rest of the teeth with nail varnish. The samples were artificially demineralized using Featherstone pH cycling technique. The test solutions of green tea and black tea were prepared by dissolving 2 gm of the prepared extract in 180 mL of water; 0.05% NaF solution was prepared by dissolving 5 gm of NaF in 1 L of distilled water. A total of 50 samples each were treated with the four test solutions, green tea, black tea, NaF and distilled water (control) for 4 minutes per day for 1 week. The samples were excited using diode laser and the fluorescence spectra were measured using laser-induced fluorescence spectroscopy. Results:The highest remineralization was shown by samples treated with green tea, followed by NaF. Black tea showed lower remineralization than both green tea and NaF and the least remineralization was shown by the control, distilled water. The difference in remineralization shown by the test solutions was statistically significant except for the difference between black tea and distilled water. Conclusion:All the three test groups, green tea, black tea, and NaF, showed remineralization. Green tea induced the highest remineralization in the tooth samples, followed by NaF. Black tea produced the least amount of remineralization. Green tea may have a potential role as a remineralizing agent for daily intake.

Context: Mineral trioxide aggregate (MTA) is widely advocated as perforation repair material even though it has limited handling properties and prolonged setting time. Biodentine is an advanced calcium silicate material, which can overcome various disadvantages of MTA. Aim: To evaluate and compare the sealing ability of MTA and Biodentine as furcation perforation repair materials. Statistical analysis used: One-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) and Scheffe multiple comparison test. Results: Statistically significant difference (p-value < 0.001) in the mean dye leakage values was obtained on comparing Biodentine with MTA, where Biodentine exhibited less leakage. Conclusion: Biodentine exhibited significantly less microleakage compared with white MTA-Angelus when used as a furcation perforation repair material and may be considered over MTA for the purpose.

Abducent nerve palsy following an inferior alveolar nerve block Use of local anaesthetics has become an inevitable part in dentistry. Dental practitioners all over the world administer local anaesthetic injections, one of the commonest being the inferior alveolar nerve block. Majority of them are safely delivered although occasional complications may occur. A number of local and transient complications like haematoma, blanching of tissues, trismus, and facial nerve palsy have been reported. Very rarely orbital complications after intraoral dental anaesthesia have been reported and include strabismus, ptosis, diplopia, opthalmoplegia and amaurosis. A 40-year-old female patient reported to the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery for multiple extractions in the lower left quadrant. She had no contributing medical history and had no previous history of extraction. She was given a conventional left inferior alveolar nerve block with a 25 gauge disposable needle of 1 inch length. 2ml of 2% lignocaine in 1:200000 adrenaline was administered. Only single plane aspiration was done which was negative. The anaesthesia was effective fulfilling all objective as well as subjective signs. The injections were administered rapidly by a junior resident with the patient lying in a supine position.
