Background: Patient education information material (PEIM) is an essential component of patient education programs in increasing patients' ability to cope with their diseases. Therefore, it is essential to consider the criteria that will be used to prepare and evaluate these resources.Objective: This paper aims to identify these criteria and recognize the tools or methods used to evaluate them.Methods: National and international databases and indexing banks, including PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, ProQuest, the Cochrane Library, Magiran, SID and ISC, were searched for this review. Original or review articles, theses, short surveys, and conference papers published between January 1990 and June 2022 were included.Results: Overall, 4688 documents were retrieved, of which 298 documents met the inclusion criteria. The criteria were grouped into 24 overarching criteria. The most frequently used criteria were readability, quality, suitability, comprehensibility and understandability. Conclusion: This review has provided empirical evidence to identify criteria, tools, techniques or methods for developing or evaluating a PEIM. The authors suggest that developing a comprehensive tool based on these findings is critical for evaluating the overall efficiency of PEIM using effective criteria.
Introduction: To get updated, nurses need to attend in-service training courses. Elearning is a promising solution for providing courses to busy nurses in teaching hospitals. This study aims to evaluate the readiness of teaching hospitals for e-learning implementation specialized for nurses' in-service trainings. Methods: This descriptive-analytical survey was carried out in Bandar Abbas (Iran) teaching hospitals affiliated to Hormozgan University of Medical Sciences (HUMS) from March to June 2016. It included nursing staff, trainers, and related hospital and HUMS authorities. Questionnaires and checklists adopted from earlier studies and customized for this study were used for data collection. Appropriate descriptive and inferential statistical formulas were applied using SPSS version 19. Results: Data showed that HUMS; in general, was in an optimum situation for e-learning implementation regarding manpower, financial support, technical equipment, strategic plan, content authoring and access to the internet. However, access to information resources and digital library was not good. Hospital authorities stated that they had lack of manpower and required infrastructure. Some of them doubted the appropriateness of elearning for clinical trainings. Apart from knowledge dimension, nurses reported significantly higher than the average on other study dimensions. Conclusion: To implement e-learning for nurses' in-service trainings, HUMS must hire experts for authoring and producing content; and technical staff for maintenance the infrastructure. Moreover, e-learning knowledge and skills of people involved in e-learning needs to be improved.
Despite the importance and position of evidence-based policymaking in the proper management of the health system, studies show that the lack or improper and untimely use of evidence are still one of the main challenges of health systems. Knowledge translation as a solution to this challenge is a process that includes a period of time that starts of decision to choose the research topic and continue to publish of research results, in which the interaction of the researchers and stakeholders is the key factor and the main axis of the process. Since the recognition and promotion of knowledge translation processes resulting from research in health system policy-making will lead to the improvement of the health system, this review protocol was designed to identify factors affecting knowledge translation implementation, including barriers and facilitators of this process. Identifying these factors can be used as a guide for health system decision-makers and research managers in planning to select appropriate policies for deployment of the knowledge translation process to increase the use of research results in the health system.
