O briquete produzido pelo adensamento de biomassa é uma das alternativas de combustível sólido que pode ser oriunda da agricultura, de podas de árvores e do setor madeireiro. Esse biocombustível apresenta vantagens em comparação à lenha e ao carvão, tais como maior densidade calorífica e facilidade de armazenamento e transporte. Entretanto, a variedade de matérias-primas utilizadas para a produção de briquetes ainda é pequena; portanto, é necessária a ampliação de pesquisas voltadas a essa temática. O presente trabalho apresenta o desenvolvimento de uma briquetadeira em escala de bancada, de baixo custo de fabricação e fácil manuseio. O sistema é composto por um molde-base, camisa e pistão acoplado a uma prensa hidráulica. As peças foram fabricadas em aço inox ASTM 304 por meio de um torno mecânico. Simulações foram realizadas em elementos finitos para a carga estática de 10 t aplicada à prensa, e o menor coeficiente de segurança obtido foi de 1,3182 para a peça do pistão. Os briquetes foram produzidos com até 50 MPa de pressão de compactação. Estão descritos, ainda, os defeitos mais comuns, ocorridos durante o uso do molde e o procedimento de manutenção corretiva para cada caso.
